Adobe Indesign for Creating Artworks for Book Printing Jobs
Origin:Image Printing  Data: 4/10/2011  Keywords: Book Printing Jobs, Adobe Indesign, book printing field

For creating the artworks for book printing Jobs, Adobe InDesign by publishers facilitates the origination of XML. Publishers or content aggregators look to add value online by generating keywords for content, enabling online searches, and also by identifying text elements or chunks by metadata. For example, a journal publisher can use a DOI (digital object identifier) to identify an article or an illustration within the article.

A DOI name can apply to any form of intellectual property expressed in any digital environment. DOI names have been called the bar code for intellectual property: like the physical bar code, they are enabling tools for use all through the supply chain to add value and save cost (doi.org, accessed 20 February 2008). Industry-wide initiatives such as Cross Ref enable the linking from references in online journals to the cited article. Publishers with websites or online services which need regular updating or additions may opt to use a content management system (CMS), software for managing websites. For some publishers the web is a different medium needing different design approaches, which are not based on linear textual organization and print-derived typographic design. Web pages may be prepared using HTML and supplementary content, such as animations, video clips, and sound recordings.

For book printing companies, when a final text is agreed, the next phase is design, which may include artwork commissioned or confirmation of layout. In book printing field, the word art also indicates photographs. This process prepares the work for book printing through processes such as typesetting, dust jacket composition, specification of paper quality, binding method and casing, and proofreading. The type of book being produced determines the amount of design required. For standard fiction titles, design is usually restricted to typography and cover design. For books containing illustrations or images, design takes on a much larger role in laying out how the page looks, how chapters begin and end, colours, typography, cover design and ancillary materials such as posters, catalogue images and other sales materials. Non-fiction illustrated titles are the most design intensive books, requiring extensive use of images and illustrations, captions, typography and a deep involvement and consideration of the reader experience.

The activities of typesetting, page layout, the production of negatives, plates from the negatives and, for hardbacks, the preparation of brasses for the spine legend and imprint are now all computerized. Prepress computerization evolved mainly in about the last twenty years of the 20th century. If the work is to be distributed electronically, the final files are saved as formats appropriate to the target operating systems of the hardware used for reading. These may include PDF files.

Artwork may refer to:

  • A piece of conceptual art
  • In publishing, printing and advertising, any visual as opposed to textual material, usually in the context of preparing for printing, including:

    • Illustration the original imagery that was used as a basis for illustration
  • Artwork (graphic arts) a drawing used in various processes to transfer an image onto a substrate
  • Photomask, an opaque plate with holes or transparencies that allow light to shine through in a defined pattern, commonly used in photolithography
