Artificial Leather Brief Introduction
Besides the cloth or textile, artificial leather is a popular lining and wrapping material for jewelry box printing jobs. Artificial leather is a fabric intended to substitute for leather in some fields such as upholstery, clothing, fabrics, and others. A common variety consisted of calico coated with boiled linseed oil, or mixed with dryers and lampblack.
Artificial leather patented and proposed for boots, was composed of powdered scraps and cuttings of leather mixed with guttapercha dried and compressed. In place of the solution, oxidized linseed oil or dissolved resin could be used as the binding medium for the leather powder. Artificial leather is marketed under many brands, including leatherette, faux leather, Naugahyde and plastic leather.
Plastic leather is a slang term for synthetic leather made of plastic. A portmanteau of plastic and leather is sometimes used derogatorily, implying a cost-cutting Ersatz for genuine hide. Besides the cost, Plastic leather may also be preferred lighter than leather or as an alternative to genuine leather. Plastic leather made of plastic will not decompose as quickly. Not all Plastic leathers are same. Polyurethane is washable, dry-cleaned and allowed to flow through the garment. PVC Plastic leather does not breathe and is difficult to clean.
Vegan Leather is also an artificial alternative to genuine leather. It may be chosen for ethical reasons, or as a designed material with different properties but similar surface to natural material. There is also no difference between vegan leather and artificial leather alternatives. |
