We have introduced before that due to different development actuality in book printing industry, Western book publishing including trade books have the further and advanced development than emerging market economy units. Hereby, we would like to talk more about the history of modern trade book printing industry in brief.

In the 1950s, in England book printing workshops were broadly based with around 50 medium-sized firms each employing around 50 staff and issuing several hundred titles per year, usually in hardback books. The publishers were owned privately, usually by family members who held a majority share. They concentrated on fiction and non-fiction books although they also developed educational books and academic lists.

The 1960s brought great optimism as in other cultural industries such as music and fashion. Many famous trade books were printed and distributed by famous publisher in vary large quantity. Many excellent publishers also developed and strength their power and influence. Compared with the situation in 1950S, the industry had a great progress.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, much of the publishers' fast-growing prosperity was based on readers' affluences and increasing public expenditure. Sales of hardback adult and children's books were underpinned by generous government funding of schools and libraries. However, mass-market paperback book printing grew substantially and was carried out by separate firms. In the main they acquired reprint paperback rights from the houses that originated titles in hardback. Literary agents, who increasingly began to represent the interests of fiction and non-fiction authors, were resented by some traditional publishers, who saw them as unwarranted intruders into the publisher-author relationship. New publishers arose producing in large quantities highly-illustrated non-fiction books in full colors at low and affordable prices.

In order to meet the market demands created due to economical developments, more and more trade book printing company were endorsed to this filed. The demand creates the supply. The economical revolution pushes and expedites it to realize.
