Gross Profit Created from Book Printing Jobs
Origin:Image Printing  Data: 4/4/2011  Keywords: Gross Profit Book Printing Jobs

Gross profits are created from book printing jobs. Beneath the total NSR is the gross profit line. The gross profit of the first printing is calculated by first summing the direct variable costs paid out to suppliers and listed here under manufacturing and royalty.

A contingency budget is included for stock write-off, such as books too damaged to dispatch again after returning unsold from booksellers. These direct variable costs totaling are deducted from the total NSR, to give the gross profit which when expressed as a percentage of the NSR.

The gross profit on the second printing of 500 paperback copies for the period 18-36 months reflect the expected decline in the rate of sales. However, when expressed as a percentage of NSR, the gross margin jumps to 67.6 per cent because the fixed costs of developing the book were only applied to the first printing. On the three-year view, the gross profit totals 59.6 per cent achieves the gross margin target of 60 per cent so often set to editors by their senior management.

Building a successful book printing company program is like building a house - you must begin with a firm foundation. Your foundation consists of getting a distributor to the bookstores (making your books available to the public) and sending out lots of books for review (to get the customers into the stores). Then you must begin with your news release program. Do not generate interest in your books until they are in the stores. Do not justify inaction by thinking you will start off slowly with small mail-order sales to individuals and build up. Distributors have three selling cycles each year, and they have long lead times. You must get started now.

TALKING ABOUT YOUR BOOK. Not everyone will want to buy your book, but you can get many more sales if you learn how to talk about your book with the 30-second "tell and sell." Also known as an "elevator speech" for the short time you are in an elevator.
