The Contributions of Technology to Ebook Readers
Origin:Image Printing  Data: 3/9/2011  Keywords: Ebook Readers, traditional book printing products

Like the receptor of paper to traditional book printing products, the electronic devices are the load of Ebook. So its development would affect the Ebook industry in great extents.

Ebook came out from in UK earliest, but at that time, it was mainly stored on audio. Audio should be displayed in terms of CD machine, which is not the real Ebook, but it opened the door to this industry. Many readers were launched to resolve this problem, such as Sony Portable Reader, Amazon Kindle and IRex Iliad etc, these devices developments had renewed interest in the consumer use of Ebooks. The Sony Reader holds up to 80 books in its internal memory and hundreds more with external memory. From then on, Ebook industry production value was growing in double digits from a very low base, despite being bedevilled by baffling technical barriers confronting the consumer.

But another problem come out that there is a proliferation of proprietary ebook reader formats, such as Adobe, Microsoft and Mobipocket. The Open Ebook Format (OEBF) is designed to create a common reader standard but does not deal with the proprietary and incompatible digital rights management (DRM) systems designed to control reader's usage. The backlit and high-energy-consuming screens on computers are not conducive to easy reading. The developments of low-energy-consuming e-ink technologies that are emerging on new hardware devices appear to offer a better reading solution.

Distributors have sales represatives in book printing company that visit the stores, show your book (cover) and take the orders. There are more than 85 book distributors and each specializes in certain types of books. Publishers must match their line of books to the distributor in order to ensure that the distributor's sales reps are visiting the right bookstores and can talk up the book. BTW, Ingram and Baker & Taylor are wholesalers not distributors; they fill orders but do not have sales reps. For a list of distributors and their lines of specialty, see our Special Report Book Marketing.

If you still can attract the right distributor for your book, you can move to Plan B. Here are three people who can line you up with a distributor. The reality of the 80/20 rule is being noticed by book distributors. Both Greenleaf Distribution and Biblio are cutting out the dead wood. According to industry observer Dan Poynter, the fault usually lies with the author/publisher. Distributors can only get your book into the bookstores. Itis up to the author publisher to promote the book to get the (buying) customers into the stores to pull the book through the system. The problem is that many publishers, upon securing a distributor, figure the stores are covered and they concentrate on other parts of theirbusiness. Biblio has cut their vendor list by 17% so far and they are aiming for a 45% cut. Biblio will require marketing plans. Greenleaf took a more human approach; they sent letters out to vendors giving them to the end of the year to bring up their sales numbers.
